Tscherning launches new award for circular and forward thinkers in the construction industry

27.08.2025:

As something completely new, Tscherning is launching a new award: the Tscherning Prize. With this award, Tscherning wants to create awareness and recognition for those who contribute to a more climate-friendly future in and around construction. The prize will be awarded once a year and will be accompanied by a grant of DKK 100,000. "We need to break bad habits and be curious about developments that can make our industry more climate-friendly," says Søren Tscherning.

An award for those who dare to innovate
"It's always hard to be the first to do something new, but if there's one thing our industry needs these days, it's innovative thinking in relation to the green transition. That's why we want to support those who can, dare and want to change our habits in construction and contribute to a more responsible way of working," says Søren Tscherning, CEO of Tscherning A/S.

Tscherning founded the award to support, celebrate and encourage those who develop or research new offbeat and creative solutions. Solutions that will contribute to more circular construction, reduce ourCO2 emissions on construction sites and reduce our waste and resource consumption in construction.

Green transition and recycling are an integral part of Tscherning's work
Behind the award are a number of values that have already influenced Tscherning's own choices. With the headquarters, Tscherninghuset, built with 89% recycled and reused materials, it is a conscious choice to lead the way in the circular transition of the construction industry.

In the process of building Tscherninghuset, Søren Tscherning experienced how challenging it was to realize his ambitions: "Several professionals in the industry told me that our project was not feasible, that we couldn't reuse concrete decks and walls, for example. That kind of advice is poison for our development, because we won't move forward if we don't break the force of habit and raise the bar. For me, the resistance worked the other way around - we had to show that you can easily reuse concrete decks."

The prize aims to challenge the habits of construction
But the resistance did more than that; it also planted the desire to launch the Tscherning Prize.

"I am so privileged to have the opportunity to test my own quirky ideas, but also to be able to support others. I hope that the award can be a counterweight to those who say that things can't be done and that we should continue as usual. The award should be a hand in the back of those who say - yes, we can and must do better - and who are curious to find out how," explains Søren Tscherning.

The award will be presented for the first time at the Building Green trade fair in Copenhagen in October 2025. Nominations for the award will open on August 27 on the Tscherning website and close on October 6. A jury with external members will be responsible for selecting the award winner.

Purpose of the award

  • To recognize and support those who contribute to the development and promotion of circularity and green transition in the construction industry
  • To highlight bold and meaningful initiatives that might otherwise risk being overlooked or never get off the ground
  • To contribute to the industry's social responsibility by focusing on new directions, values and role models where business and consideration for climate, environment and people can be reconciled

The Tscherning Prize jury

Tscherning is not alone in working towards a more climate-friendly construction industry - or in believing that it is worth celebrating those who contribute with something new and different. Therefore, a qualified jury, consisting of external professionals with different perspectives, will select the award winner together with Søren Tscherning . The jury will ensure a broad professional assessment and help to raise and spread the ambitions behind the award.
