Tscherning Vestforbrænding are joining forces in a new pilot project that will make it easier to reuse paving stones directly in new construction projects. The goal is to make recycling the norm rather than the exception.
Every year, large quantities of high-quality concrete tiles and paving stones end up at recycling centers. Instead of letting these valuable materials end up as road fill or waste, a new collaboration between Tscherning Vestforbrænding will now ensure that the stones are returned directly to the cycle – and back into the ground in concrete construction projects.
From recycling station to construction project
The pilot project will run throughout 2026. Vestforbrænding collects and sorts the stones into large, uniform batches, which Tscherning takes over and uses in future projects. This solves one of the industry's biggest challenges: creating the necessary scale and logistics for recycled materials.
"It is precisely at the plant itself that the used stones are given new life and prove their value once again. The collaboration gives us access to batches of such high quality that we can transport them directly to our projects and use them," says Søren Tscherning, CEO of Tscherning.
A greener future for construction waste
The collaboration is part of a larger ambition to break the waste curve. By testing the logistics and application on a large scale, we will work together to show that municipal construction waste is a valuable resource that can be directly incorporated into new, professional solutions.
For Tscherning , the project Tscherning another step toward making the circular economy an integral part of everyday life on Danish construction and civil engineering sites.
