Tscherning is carrying out extensive demolition and environmental remediation in connection with the complete renovation of the Blokland development in Albertslund. At the start, the building consisted of 303 homes with a total area of over 22,000 m2. 28 homes will be demolished and 16 new rooftop apartments will be established. Tscherning's work includes environmental remediation and partial demolition of building elements.
Blokland was built in 1970 and is now undergoing a comprehensive renovation. The property is centrally located in Albertslund and consists of three smaller blocks, A, B and C, as well as the significantly larger block F, which extends 360 meters from a railway terrain to Roskildevej. Across the blocks, contaminated building elements are being environmentally remediated and building elements are being demolished and re-established. Extensive redevelopment is also taking place, with several homes being merged into larger townhouses and rooftop housing being established on the largest of the four blocks.
On the project, Tscherning will demolish 11,000 m2 of roof structure, 10,000 m2 of facades and 279 balconies. The roof and facades contain asbestos and the balconies contain dangerous amounts of PCBs and heavy metals. Due to the large amounts of asbestos and the spread on the roof spaces, the area has been covered and sealed with negative pressure during the work. In addition, extensive demolition and environmental remediation is taking place in connection with the establishment of new housing and work to bring the property up to date with new escape routes and elevators.
Execution methods and plans are continuously coordinated so that learning and experience is carried from one block to the next. Resident management has been particularly important as they are continuously rehoused as the work progresses.
